LET'S LEARN SOME BASICS POINT IN SOLAR
Solar Panel
Solar Panel
Solar Panel Types | Advantages | Disadvantages |
Monocrystalline Solar Panel | High efficiency/performance Efficiency upto 22% Temperature coefficient Occupy less space | Higher costs 22% |
Polycrystalline Solar Panel | Low cost
Slightly lower heat tolerance | Lower efficiency/ performance Efficiency typically 15-18% Occupy more space |

Shading of Solar Panels
The shading caused by surrounding trees, buildings, or any objects casting shadows on the solar panels has a direct impact on their performance. The amount of sunlight that the solar panels convert into energy depends on both the duration and intensity of the shadows falling on them. The more shadows they experience, the less energy they will produce. Therefore, minimizing the amount of shading is crucial for maximizing energy production.

Solar Panel Alignment
For optimal power generation, it is recommended that solar panels be oriented towards the true south direction. This allows the panels to receive maximum exposure to sunlight as the sun moves from east to west. The tilt or inclination of the solar panel should also be towards the south direction. Therefore, to achieve the most efficient harnessing of sunlight, it is ideal to position solar PV panels facing south.

Solar Structures
The installation of a solar rooftop solution is heavily influenced by the quality of materials and workmanship involved. A robust mounting structure is essential for a successful rooftop solar power system, preferably designed or approved by a structural engineer. The weight of the PV system and mounting structure should be carefully engineered to withstand the wind loads specific to the location’s wind-speed zone. However, there are readily available pre-certified ready-made and modular mounting structures designed for certain wind speeds, which can be seamlessly incorporated into the solar panel design. Common materials used for mounting solar panels include galvanized iron (GI) and aluminum. For GI structures, the quality of galvanization is of utmost importance to ensure a long-lasting, rust-free lifespan.

Solar Cables
To ensure optimal performance and safety of your solar power system, it is important to use specialized DC cables specifically designed for residential solar installations. Ordinary AC cables are not suitable for this purpose. These custom-made cables are specifically engineered to minimize electricity loss and are built to withstand various weather conditions, including extreme heat, heavy rain, and thunderstorms. They are UV protected, durable, and long-lasting. It is crucial to avoid using regular cables, as they pose significant safety risks, including the potential for electrocution. Furthermore, low-quality wiring can compromise the effectiveness of your solar system and result in increased expenses.

Solar Accessories
The proper functioning and safety of a solar power system depend on a range of essential accessories. It is crucial not to compromise on the quality of these accessories, as it can jeopardize the entire solar system. Junction Boxes are used to conceal wiring connections throughout the solar system, while Conduits provide protection for the wiring of solar power plants. Conduits can be rigid, flexible, or a combination of both, depending on specific requirements. Lightning Arrestors are deployed to safeguard the entire setup from lightning strikes, particularly during the rainy season. Earthing, which involves grounding the residential solar power plant, allows for the dissipation of excess electricity during a lightning strike, thereby ensuring the safety of the entire solar system.

Solar Installation
To achieve optimal electricity generation from a solar power system, precise installation is of utmost importance. Each rooftop is unique, necessitating a systematic design process and meticulous supervision to ensure the proper installation of the solar rooftop power plant. Solar panels should be securely fastened or mounted on a concrete foundation to ensure long-term durability. It is advisable to position solar inverters and batteries as close to the solar panels as possible to minimize transmission losses in the DC system. Care must be taken to avoid exceeding the maximum permissible voltage when connecting solar panels in series. A minimum gap of 4 mm between solar panels is recommended to allow for proper airflow and accommodate any material expansion. Additionally, interconnecting solar panels should be of the same type (mono or poly) and power class.

Solar Panel Cleaning
Solar panels often accumulate dust rapidly, which can hinder their optimal electricity generation. To ensure maximum efficiency, it is recommended to clean the solar panels at least once every 30 days. Ideally, if possible, a weekly cleaning schedule would be even more beneficial.

Sanctioned & Approval for Subsidies
For On-Grid or Grid-Tie solar power systems, it is essential for the owner to fulfill all the necessary requirements to install a net-meter. This process may involve additional time and fees, which can vary depending on the local electricity utility. On the other hand, battery-based systems typically do not require permits. However, if there are any subsidy schemes offered by the local government, additional documentation may be necessary to avail the subsidy.
